Reading Notes: The Ogre of Rashomon

This story was about a frightening ogre in Kyoto that was said to appear at the gate of Rashomon at night to eat people whole.
No one dared go out near that gate after sunset.

There was a group of five warriors that followed a well-known ogre-killer.
This group of warriors were all valorous and brave.
One in particular started asking others about the rumor of the ogre at the Gate of Rashomon.
Another warrior, Watanabe, said, "Do not talk such nonsense! All the ogres were killed by our chief Raiko at Oeyama! It cannot be true because, even if any ogres did escape from that great killing, they would not dare to show themselves in this city, for they know that our brave master would at once attack them if he knew that any of them were still alive!"
Watanabe told the other knight that he was believing an old woman's story.
The first warrior told Watanabe to go and see for himself and to report back
Watanabe accepted the challenge and set out upon horseback

One of the warriors gave Watanabe a piece of paper bearing the other four warrior's names
The other warrior told Watanabe to post it to the gate so that could see proof of his going there
Watanabe set off, paper in hand

Watanabe finally reached the Gate of Rashomon
There was no ogre around or anything to hint towards one having been there to ravage townfolk
Watanabe attached the paper to the gate and turned around to head home

Out of nowhere, Watanabe's helmet was grabbed from behind
unable to see much in the dark, he fearlessly asked "who are you?"
He saw the hairy thick arm of the ogre
without waiting for a reply, he brought out his sword and sliced at the ogre's arm
The ogre quickly retracted and yelled out in pain

Watanabe finally saw who his attacker was taken aback
The ogre stood back and unleashed flames from his mouth as to scare Watanabe
He was unmoved
They fought back and forth for some time

The ogre decided to flee
Watanabe chased the ogre, but couldn't keep up
When he came back to the gate, he came across the ogre's arm
He took the arm home

Watanabe was now considered a hero amongst the other warriors
He was given a great feast
His wonderful deed was soon known through Kyoto
People from all around came to see the ogre's arm
