Of course, an Indian would choose Taj Mahal (Agra, India) as a place they consider one of their favorites. Despite being born here in the U.S., I actually have gone there...a long time ago when I was about 4. Now thinking back to it, all I remember was it being very hot and humid. Oh, and that there was a body stuffed in a step/holy resting place in the ground of some sort? But, other than that, I don't remember much. Mind you, I was 4 and had gone with my very restrictive, conservative, Indian parents. I think going back at a more appropriate age, so any age above 21 (:P), would yield a much more fun, enjoyable, and memorable trip. I am excited to go back to this astonishing monument and beautiful city.

Oh, that's great, Lance! I love the idea of having visited the Taj Mahal as a tiny tot and having those funny childhood memories. It's like how my parents took us on a vacation to Yugoslavia when I was maybe 4 or 5 and all I remember is the taste of the fish soup that we ate there, plus the most amazingly ripe peach I had ever had in my life. But that's all I remember! Food memories: they are strong, ha ha.
ReplyDeleteThe Taj Mahal is a modern building, so it does not appear in the epics... but there is a thriller novel you can read later in the semester if you are interested, and it involves the Taj Mahal at the end! It's The Krishna Key by Ashwin Sanghi, a very popular Indian writer who does books in the style of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code if you are familiar with that book. :-)
Hey Lance! I have not been out of the United States much but it would be very cool to visit the Taj Mahal! As pretty much everyone has, I have seen pictures of the Taj Mahal all my life. Wow, it looks amazing. It is crazy that you can still remember going there when you were just 4?? I do not think I remember anything from when I was 4!
ReplyDeleteHi Lance!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason the comment box wouldn't load on your Introduction post, so I figured this is a good place to comment as well! The Taj Mahal would be such a cool place to visit, since the architecture looks amazing and from the pictures the landscaping is quite pretty as well. I know a family friend who visited, and it seems like such a life-changing event to be able to see such an awesome place in person. I hope you get the chance to visit again soon!
